This is the biggest international food event - a food trade show - that tales place in Montreal every second year. Every other year, it is hosted in Toronto.

This year, 50 countries participated in the show. There were 1,000 individual exhibitors spread over 240,000 square feet of exhibition floor space. The show welcomed 18,500 professional visitors. Each booth averaged 350 contacts.

The exhibitors came with a hope to establish contacts and make trade deals. All succeeded in making their products visible and appreciated. The show was the place to promote and to offer, to make contacts and deals.

The special focus this year was on cheese and microbrewery, as well as novelty beverages. A large attention was also allotted to meat and fish products and their culinary presentations. There were also oriental dumplings and teas, a great variety of olive oils, and myriads of other delectable foods including maple syrup, ice-cream, desserts, sweets, chocolate, candies and cookies, gourmet chips, coffee and many more products that tempted one'e eye and curiosity and brought an inevitable regret that it is just physically impossible to try to taste all them all.

The show also highlighted the innovative products, especially those which won some recognition by the jury and received awards. Olive oil category was especially prominent, and special tastings of the winners was available to all attendees.

Green Wine 2018

Greek Wine Tasting Event
May 1, 2018

At this annual, spring, Montreal's Greek wines event, 32 vineyards were represented this year. Each displayed a great number of new Greek wines, some vintages as old as 2006. Amazingly, quite a few were organic wines, and a few more more grown and produced organically though those specific lands have not yet received the organic certification. It was a pleasure to discover the augmenting trend in producing organic wines.

General public does not know, unfortunately, too much about Greek wines. Yet they are becoming very complex and sophisticated during the past few decades. As Greeks generally do not drink wine without food, they are all developed to accompany meals and to merry perfectly with meets and cheeses. They augment the epicurean experience of good eating and make any food gathering joyful and delectable.

This year once again the event was well attended by a great number of wine professionals from Montreal and its nearby regions. The place was buzzing with wine conversations and tips exchanging. I personally was quite a few times directed by total strangers to taste some specific wines that they liked. The atmosphere was friendly and fully concentrated to discover the new tastes of Greece and its different vintages.

California Wine - Montreal 2018

California Wines Festival - 2018 Tour
California Wine Institute

April 17, 2018

A great number of California wine producers participating in a Canadian tour, introduced their wines in Montreal and Quebec City. 42 of them represented their wines in Montreal. Each producer had an impressive number of different wine vintages and types to highlight and to offer to the Quebec wine professionals. It was an impressive selection of wines to taste and to discover.

One also noticed some new tendencies in the wine bottle labels. Some producers introduces vivid colours and geometrical designs, to attract the consumer's eyes to their wines and bottles. Others relied on using large and bold letters that would attract people's eyes to their bottles.

But the design of the labels was not as important as the contents of the bottle, the  excellence of the wines inside them. The two following photos show how the wine was flowing into wine glasses at the California wine tasting event, to help the professionals to appreciate them and to discover them.

Cheese, cold cuts and slices of pizza helped to make this event even more interesting, and ensured the guests would stay longer at  the event.

The event was a great success, well attended and appreciated.
